Historical Legend

According to ancient mythology, the temple is linked to the tragic story of Sati Devi, the devoted wife of Lord Shiva. Hindu legends tell us that when Sati self-immolated, a grief-stricken Shiva carried her body through the heavens. During his journey, parts of her body fell at various places on earth. It is said that her upper lip fell at the site where Santaneshwar Mahadev Temple now stands, imbuing the spot with divine power. This connection to the myth is also highlighted in the revered text "Shree Swasthani Brata Katha," which is traditionally recited during the winter months in Nepal.

Specially, devotess visit the temple on Monday and Saturday of the week. Similarly, during festivals like Maha Shivaratri, Teej, and Bada Dashain, many pligrims visit here.
