Books For Change Project in Sindhupalchok

Book for Change organization is a non-profit organization working in the middle of the community for children's education, women's empowerment, and social development. We help to build special libraries for teaching and learning in public schools. At the same time, we have undertaken a project to build a library in various schools in Sindhupalchok.

1. Shree Bhotang Devi Secondary School

In Sindhupalchok, Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality Ward No. 3, Bhotang Devi Secondary School, we joined the plan to make an attractive library for the students. The closeness between more than 400 students and more than 20 teachers was very encouraging. We have done a library project in this school in collaboration with our various partner organizations.

We aim to establish a school library for children and students in grades one to ten, creating an oasis where exchange, learning, and interaction flourish.

As a vital community hub, the library holds immense significance for children. It houses a diverse collection of books in the local language, with a particular focus on children's literature due to the school's young student population. Within this vibrant space, children are encouraged to explore their creativity through engaging activities such as storytelling, poetry recitation, arts and crafts, art education, drawing, puzzles, and tutoring sessions. The school library seamlessly integrates into the teaching and learning process, providing valuable teaching resources to support the class teachers and fostering a positive environment that motivates the children.

OUR INITIATIVES

The library serves as a play area, a learning centre, and a meeting point for teachers, children, and families.

  • We will renovate an existing room to create an ideal space for the school library.
  • We will furnish the library with an extensive collection of books and suitable furniture.
  • The walls will be painted in a child-friendly manner, adding to the welcoming atmosphere.
  • The floor will be covered with mats and carpet, providing a comfortable and cosy setting.
  • Additionally, we plan to commission a mural by local artists, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the library.

By undertaking these efforts, we strive to establish a dynamic school library that nurtures intellectual growth, facilitates learning, and promotes interaction among students, teachers, and families.

2. Yangrima Boarding School, Sermathang

We have done a library-related project at Yangrima School located in Helambu, Sermathang in Sindhupalchok district. We planned to build an attractive library in this school (which was destroyed by the 2015 earthquake) and make the students focus on learning. This school is run by Yangri Trust. A boarding facility is also available for Students. For ease in the reading of the students studying here, we did the work of the library with the efforts of our best hands. Our main aim is to seek change from books.
