Our Story

First Step Himalaya is an organization started by Durga Aran and Fionna Heiton. The organization started by these two couples has been working for educational reform in remote areas of Nepal. Durga Aran grew up in the Sindhupalchok district. Even though he had a strong desire to study as a child, his family did not send him to study. When he went to school, there was no learning environment. Teaching teachers were often absent. At that time, there were not many sources and resources for studying. The teaching method was not very good. Aran, who understood similar problems in the educational sector, took inspiration from his own childhood and started First Step Himalaya along with his wife.

"Our aim is to give rural Nepali children a better start in life so that they will have a love of learning and choices as they become young adults." - Fionna Heiton, Founding Director
